This is "Maskebillede" (Mask Image). An original collage piece by my father, Aage Arbjerg, where the primitive and the industrial melt together into an uncompromising expression.

The work is built upon a raw, splintered OSB board that is partially painted dark and framed by black wood scraps. This provides a massive, tactile, and industrial background. In the center sits a piece of coarse, untreated canvas, where a naive and abstract face – the mask itself – is drawn with thick, black lines. Along with the raw white strokes and yellow splashes of color, the motif brings to mind ancient and cave paintings, dragged directly into a modern, raw reality. It is a work that refuses to decorate in the traditional sense. It is honest, heavy, and creates immediate edge and character in your home.
