This is "Cinderella". An original, three-dimensional collage piece by my father, Aage Arbjerg, which turns a classic fairy tale completely upside down and pulls it into an unpolished reality.

The work is built onto a dark, rustic wooden frame, which forms the background for a solid, used cutting board. Mounted on this is the focal point: a pair of worn, flat women's shoes that have clearly walked their miles in the daily grind. Just above them sits the contrast in the form of a small, shimmering silver shoe. It is a piece of insistent installation art that, with raw materials and quirky humor, exposes the gap between the fairy tale's idealized image and the raw everyday reality. A work with physical weight that creates an edge and demands a smile from the viewer.
